Contemporary Painter and Printmaker Marti Schmidt combines ancient art forms with modern impressionism, adding textures, abstract shapes and silhouettes that evoke a highly distinctive style that is uniquely her own.

In the Northwest Florida coastal community of Point Washington near Seaside Florida, rich with talented artisans, is the home and art studio of impressionistic Printmaker-Artist Marti Schmidt.
Educated in Art, Printmaking and Fabric Design, with over 40 years of experience to become a master in her field, Marti Schmidt has a legacy of artistic and creative endeavors.
Her art and design studio, Marti Schmidt Designs, was created in 1980 and has grown to become a productive and successful art business with commissions from private and corporate clients. Her award-winning artwork is represented in some of the finest homes and galleries in the nation.
“I often approach my work with a specific idea or image in mind, but as the piece unfolds with each layer it begins to take on a life of it’s own… I have come to expect the unexpected, this is the most magical part of my creative journey. ”
The latest of her modern artwork with it’s exotic imagery and bold approach to color are influenced by her art sabbaticals to France and the many cultures and people from her travels around the world. Layers of intaglio etchings, wood block, Linocuts and other printmaking techniques are combined with fine papers and paint allowing unexpected textures and images to be exposed from beneath the surface. Each creation drawing the viewer deeper into her fine art prints and paintings leaving them with the feeling of having been to far away places.
In 1990 Marti Expanded her love of design from paper to fabric forming her hand printed textile line Islandreams Textiles with emphasis on limited edition, hand-printed textiles. It quickly developed into a complete commercial fabric line, sold in top showrooms in the country and used in hospitality and high-end residential projects here and abroad.
