Mary Hong is the South Walton 2014 Artist of the Year and a full-time working artist cracking up glass in her studio/gallery in Grayton Beach Florida. She has amassed a collection of over 4000 pounds of blown glass, sheet glass, recycled glass, stained glass, glass test tubes, vintage glass swizzle sticks, glass tiles, glass beads, glow-in-the-dark glass, and “really pretty” glass.

A creative glass freak since 1999, she uses a non-traditional mosaic techniqe that suspends cut glass in resin on painted canvas. She uses almost all reclaimed glass and mirror in her work.

Mary brings over twenty years of world-wide travel experience to her art and her classes. A retired flight attendant, Mary is familiar with the jet-set scene and will be taking her sold-out classes to Europe!

“I had my first international solo art exposition in the South of France in 2013 and I want to go back and teach my craft in Provence! So many of my clients and students in Florida wanted to hear about my trip and thought it was so wild that I did this and I think they were envious! So, I’m putting together a weekly itinerary of art workshops abroad, to bring other travelers to Gaujac, a cute little town near Avignon.”

Students in these workshops will be able to visit wineries, collect found objects, and meander markets. Daily workshops with mosaic/art instruction and hands on experience will round out each day, along with fabulous farm-to-table French feasts!

Mary lives in Destin Florida with her husband, twins, and all that glass! Visit her online at MaryHongStudio.com to see more samples of her work!
